NFRA Condemns GOProud’s Sponsorship of CPAC
Resolution of the Board of the
National Federation of Republican Assemblies
Adopted at the National Federation of Republican Assemblies (NFRA) Winter Board Meeting,
February 12, 2011
---
WHEREAS the annual CPAC conference has for decades been a centerpiece of the conservative calendar and a focal point of the conservative movement; and
WHEREAS CPAC has from its inception been hosted by the American Conservative Union (ACU), the oldest conservative lobbying organization in the country; and
WHEREAS conservatives trust ACU – both through its stewardship of CPAC and through its annual Congressional ratings – to represent historic American conservative values; and
WHEREAS in 2010 ACU allowed the group GOProud to co-sponsor CPAC; and
WHEARAS GOProud, by actively agitating for the legalization of so called “gay marriage”, expressly seeks to undermine the American family in irreconcilable conflict with the central conservative tenets of traditional family values; and
WHEREAS after much outcry from conservative organizations, ACU stated that GOProud would not be a sponsor of CPAC in 2011; and
WHEREAS many conservative organizations, including the NFRA, made sponsorship decisions based on this false guidance from the ACU board; and
WHEREAS the ACU board then reversed field and voted to include GOProud as a participating organization;
THEREFORE:
1. The NFRA Board of Directors, meeting in Washington during the annual CPAC conference condemns the ACU’s obvious bait-and-switch, which it sees as nothing but a cheap attempt to lock in sponsorship and therefore funding from organizations who would otherwise have refused support;
2. The NFRA Board of Directors calls upon the ACU to resume its historic advocacy and defense of traditional American conservative values;
3. The NFRA Board of Directors reaffirms its opposition to the legalization of so-called “same sex marriage”, and any other behaviors that tend to harm the family;
4. If the ACU will not relent, the NFRA Board of Directors hereby directs its officers to refuse any future offer of co-sponsorship of the annual CPAC conference; and
5. Likewise, the NFRA Board of Directors calls upon the ACU to cease pretending stewardship of anything conservative and to become forthright and honest in its marketing; and
6. The NFRA Board of Directors strongly recommends that the ACU look to replace its anti-family board members that do not promote social values with pro-family socially conservative members who will stand for ACU traditions of both social and fiscal conservatism.
MOREOVER:
WHEREAS the NFRA Board of Directors is, in light of recent revelations, concerned about the internal management and financial controls of the ACU;
THEREFORE:
The NFRA Board of Directors calls upon the ACU to rethink and repent, to get its own house in order, and to stop discrediting itself and the entire conservative movement before irreparable harm is done.

We need more people like you [the Republican Assemblies] who truly believe in the Constitution, in liberty and in standing up to an establishment that believes in neither.
I am honored to stand with the National Federation of Republican Assemblies, one of the strongest voices for conservative values and a revitalized Republican Party in America.
The Republican Assemblies are truly a force for renewal within the Republican Party.
