Illinois Republican Assembly Receives Provisional Charter from NFRA

New Republican Assembly Provisionally Chartered in Illinois

May 29, 2009

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The National Federation of Republican Assemblies (NFRA) announces that conservative Republican activists in Illinois have organized, elected officers, and submitted a provisional charter to re-launch the Illinois Republican Assembly (IRA).

The provisional charter was formally accepted this month by the NFRA national office, and NFRA will vote on full granting a full charter later this year at the NFRA's convention in Reno, Nevada.

Illinois has been without an official Republican Assembly for many years, says Rod Martin, Esq., president of the National Federation of Republican Assemblies. "Illinois, is of course the Land of Lincoln, and the birthplace of President Ronald Wilson Reagan. But the GOP hasn't won a presidential election in Illinois for 20 years -- since George H.W. Bush succeeded President Reagan. The new team there aims to change that."

GOP activist E.J. Koprowski, who was midwest regional finance chairman of Michael Steele for Republican National Committee Chairman, and is on the host committee for a fundraiser on June 18 at McGuire-Woods in Chicago for Bob McDonnell for Governor,  has been elected by the IRA as the president of the newly chartered affiliate.

"We're seeking alliances with other conservative groups, and are going to help rebuild the party here so it reflects the historic values of the GOP -- standing for low taxes, smaller government, sound national defense, and right to life," says Koprowski. "We don't want Democratic-lite, statist, utopian policies from the 'GOP' here anymore."

Adds Ken Calzavera, who was chosen as a national director for the IRA: "Barack Obama has taken half of the Chicago Democratic machine with him to Washington D.C. Now is the time to strike locally. We can, and must, reclaim this state for the cause of liberty."
